I am finding more and more that the answer is usually I have set my mind on things on the earth. It is disheartening and sometimes discouraging. But I am thankful for Romans 7:24, 25 and the question and answer from Paul, "Oh wretched man that I am. Who can deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
God is truly good in giving grace each day to me (and you) to fight this battle. There is much hope for me when I consider what Christ did in order that my heart would be his. I am keeping Colossians 1:21-23 in front of my eyes as a reminder and prayer this week to fight the hopelessness.
And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard...
I think we all have that battle, every day and probably every hour. But I think that there's needs to be a "happy medium" in this regard. We are generally so focused on this world that we forget about the spiritual. Yet there are those who are so "spiritually" minded that they don't see what's around them. So, to say it another way, we need to have a good tension between focusing on earthly things and heavenly things.
